Stadium Journey Announces 101 Best Stadium Experiences of 2012

Stadium Journey Magazine released its 2nd annual list of the best stadium experiences of the past year. For the second consecutive year, the Indianapolis Colts and Lucas Oil Stadium were recognized as the best stadium experience.

Jan. 14, 2013 - ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Stadium Journey utilizes its FANFARE scale for ranking the stadiums on its website and for the purposes of creating this list. The scale takes into account the food & beverage at the stadium, overall atmosphere, the neighborhood in which it resides, the fans, access outside and inside the stadium, return on investment, and allows for room for “bonus points” for unique features.

Reviews are submitted by Stadium Journey’s 80+ contributors, and tiebreakers are settled by a stadium’s “Crowd Score,” (the average of ratings submitted by members).

Stadium Journey Magazine is a monthly publication, available exclusively on the Stadium Journey website -http://www.stadiumjourney.com/magazine
  • Our Seattle Sounders FC came in as #7th [only MLS team listed]

Seattle Pro Sports… what a month so far!

Wow… January 2013 started with a bang!  It’s been a crazy couple of days for Seattle’s Pro Sports.  Here’s a summary of all that is happening:

Sounders loaned striker Freddy Montero to Colombia’s Millonarios Club for 6 months with option for 1 year. Suuuupa Fred sent his goodbye thank you tweet to Seattle fans for 4 great years. His tweeter profile (@Goleador17) already reads: ExDeportivo Cali , ExAtletico Huila , Ex Seattle Sounders FC. This move frees up salary cap and a designated player spot.  Thankfully for us Alonso (midfielder) was not chosen by West Ham. Opening game will be March 2, 2013 agains t Montreal at 7pm (C-link stadium).

On the Football front, our Seahawks moved on to the divisional round of the playoffs after winning 24-14 against the WA DC Redskins. In a game in which RGIII left injured. Next Sunday Jan 13 the Seahawks will face the Atlanta Falcons at 4pm PST. Unfortunately, Clemons is out for the season with an ACL injury. The good thing, Russell, Lynch, Sherman, Miller, Wagner, and the rest of the gang are playing extremely well and have the momentum on their side.

The biggest news of the year, NBA’s Sacramento Kings rumored to be bought by Seattle’s Chris Hansen investing group. Talks are ~$500M, this after the Virginia Beach Arena went down. News have been flying all over the web and they claim the deal will be completed by the end of January pending approval of the NBA in March. If all goes along what is being reported, the Sonics will be back in Seattle for the 2013-2014 season! I would have preferred an expansion team rather than moving a franchise up here. I feel for Sacramento and their 28 year long ownership.

Along with NBA potential return to Seattle goes the possibility of a professional NHL team and the Phoenix Coyotes have been struggling to finance their operations. NHL’s lockout have left their energy in trying to get a season going rather than paying attention to what is happening or not in Seattle.

Our beloved Edgar Martínez, will have to keep his fingers crossed for another year… Sports writers did not select any player to MLB’s Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. Gar obtained 35.9% of the needed 75%. He got 36.2% in 2010 and 32.9% in 2011. Still, he has enough votes to remain elegible for next year. As long as he reaches over 5% of the votes he can remain on the ballots for a period of 15 years. Four years have already passed… he has 12 more years and I’ll keep hoping and praying! I will not lose faith that one say, Edgar will make it to Cooperstown as the 4th Boricua and join Roberto Clemente, Orlando ‘Peruchín’ Cepeda & Roberto Alomar.

In women’s sports, our new soccer professional team, Seattle Reign FC, awaits the college draft next Jan. 18th. There is plenty of speculation about which international players will land in Seattle. Most likely candidates: Hope Solo, Sydney Leroux, Alex Morgan, Verónica Pérez (Mexico). Teams will get an allocation of 3 US international players, 2 from Mexico and 2 from Canada. One team will get 2 US players. Check this article for more details.

Seattle Storm and gold olympian point guard, Sue Bird stepped into the court for a game on Jan 6th. First game since her hip surgery last October.  She played +23 min. She joined WNBA’s Diana Taurasi, Candace Parker and Ewelina Kolbryn in Russia all of whom play for UMMC Ekaterinbur.

Sounders to open 2013 season with visit from Montreal Impact

If there is one thing Seattle has shown in the Sounders FC’s first four years in Major League Soccer, it is that the city knows how to hold a soccer celebration.

In each of the club’s first four years, the Sounders FC opened the MLS regular season at CenturyLink Field and in 2013, that trend will continue.

On Tuesday, MLS announced the home openers for all 19 teams in the league and the Sounders will open at CenturyLink Field on March 2 against the Montreal Impact, putting Seattle back into the opening weekend after a one-year hiatus from MLS First Kick last year.

Seattle is 3-1-0 all-time in season openers.

Seattle = Soccer City USA!

Sunday was a great night for Soccer in America. The MLS has come a long way and still has a long way to go. But if Sunday was any indication of things to come, the future looks bright. The level of play has risen quite a bit in the MLS. While it still pails in comparison to the major leagues in Europe and South America it is starting to creep its way up to match the competition of the second tear leagues in norther Europe and elsewhere.

On a more local note, I could not be happier with the Sounders first few years in the MLS. The Seattle sports fan has had to endure more then its fair share of garbage over the last 10 years. I mean just look at 2008 for example :
 - The Seahawks went 4 - 12. Holmgren’s last year as head coach. Worst season since 1992
 - The Mariners went 61–101. First team in MLB history to lose 100 games with a payroll over $100 million.
 - 07/08 was the last year that the SuperSonics played in Seattle.

2008 was a rough year to be a Seattle sports town. So when the Sounders arived in March of 2009 they brought with them a bit of hope. Some thing to cheer for that didn’t suck. A team that’s only history was of being a very good 2nd tear soccer club, a club that would beat MLS teams on occasions  Their was finally a ray of hope in the Seattle sports world. The team started out playing pretty well. Attendance was amazing and the city rallied behind the Rave Green. That support has only increased and Sundays game was evidence of that. It was the best attended game in the MLS since 2006. I was stoked to be a part of it.

Sounders are here to stay and the whole damn city is stoked for that fact!

Sporting KC, enjoy the USOC this year ‘cause we are coming back for it and will bring it home for the 100th anniversary of the USOC.
Yes, we had our chances and failed to take advantage but 5 cards against 0, then a PK retake call?  Really, Salazar?  Next time, please put on the opponent’s uniform on.

Hey Kansas City!  Try to make it 3peat!  Guess what? Salazar will not call the next 2 USOCs in a row, therefore you will not come even close to the Sounders feat of 3 USOC’s in a row and 4 finals in a row.  Ah, let’s not forget you must achieve that feat without losing a single game ;)
Go Sounders!

Roger Levesque, you will never be forgotten and will forever be missed! Thank you for honoring the fans after each game with a greeting, a smile, a handshake, a hug and a few autographs… and yes, sometimes the shirt off your back, your cleats and even your socks!
You always took the time to come by the ECS & Gorilla FC seating areas and spent a few minutes of your time with us. Truly, a class act.  I hope the rest of your teammates learned from you… after all, without fans (aka attendance) there will be no team.
Good luck on your MBA studies! I hope we can cross paths again. Sounder ‘till I die!

Bienvenido Zak, enhorabuena!

Zak, you are one class act man

I had forgiven him a long time ago. There were no problems, but I think that was good to have that public moment for closure. I think he can go on with his career, and I can try to do the same with my career. I have a long road ahead of me still in terms of just getting back to playing consistently and consistently well. So that’s good. He takes my shirt home, I’ll take his shirt home and I think that chapter is closed. (Steve Zakuani)

agtk:

(On when Steve Zakuani came on the field…) Man, that’s the loudest I’ve ever heard it. That’s the loudest I’ve ever heard a stadium. I’ve been playing 11 years of soccer and that’s the loudest I’ve ever heard a stadium. It was good for him to get back, he’s worked hard. We saw his ups and downs battling and coming back. He’s feeling good and he’s only going to help us out as an attacking option in the second part of the season. -Eddie Johnson
