The countdown has begun!
I know it’s been a while since my last post. The WNBA season has started, my Seattle Storm are in for a challenging ride without our two main stars LJ & Bird. But WNBA news these days are more about the fantastic rookie class, particularly the #1 pick Brittney Griner. Kudos to Griner for being her full self and not give portions of herself to make others comfortable with their issues around gender & sexuality.
She says she was brought up to be the fastest driver, not the fastest girl.
On Sunday, none of the boys was faster than the girl.
Danica Patrick became the first woman to win the pole position for the Daytona 500, considered the Super Bowl of NASCAR, posting a lap of 196.434 mph Sunday.
In doing so, she also became the first woman to win a pole at any NASCAR top-division race, racking up another milestone in her barrier-breaking career.
Patrick, 30, is in her first full year as a NASCAR Sprint Cup Driver. Last year she made 10 Sprint Cup starts, qualifying no better than 23rd. NASCAR says Patrick still qualifies as a rookie for the 2013 season, and she’s the first rookie to win the Daytona 500 pole since Jimmie Johnson in 2002.
Temeka has career averages of 8.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. She is approaching the 2,000-point plateau, with 1,922 points over her eight year career. Temeka spent three seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks (2006-08) and three with the Mercury (2009-11).
Noelle is a 6-0 guard out of UCLA and a six-year veteran who most recently played with the Washington Mystics. She played in all 30 games and averaged 6.9 points and 2.9 rebounds per game for the Mystics in 2012. Noelle spent her first two seasons with Minnesota followed by another three with Los Angeles. She has career averages of 6.1 points and 2.9 rebounds.
SEATTLE - The Seattle Storm announced today that Lauren Jackson will not compete with the team during the 2013 season. Jackson has chosen to remain in Australia to rehabilitate following her recent hamstring surgery. Her contract has been suspended and she is expected to play for the Storm in 2014.
In addition, the Storm announced that center Ann Wauters will not return. She has chosen to spend the summer resting and with her family and does not plan to participate in the WNBA in 2013.

Nate Silver and his sabermetrics pick Seattle vs New England for the Super Bowl!
I was thinking Seattle & Denver… hey, that means I got 50% right… the 50% that matters to me ;)
Wow… January 2013 started with a bang! It’s been a crazy couple of days for Seattle’s Pro Sports. Here’s a summary of all that is happening:
Sounders loaned striker Freddy Montero to Colombia’s Millonarios Club for 6 months with option for 1 year. Suuuupa Fred sent his goodbye thank you tweet to Seattle fans for 4 great years. His tweeter profile (@Goleador17) already reads: ExDeportivo Cali , ExAtletico Huila , Ex Seattle Sounders FC. This move frees up salary cap and a designated player spot. Thankfully for us Alonso (midfielder) was not chosen by West Ham. Opening game will be March 2, 2013 agains t Montreal at 7pm (C-link stadium).
On the Football front, our Seahawks moved on to the divisional round of the playoffs after winning 24-14 against the WA DC Redskins. In a game in which RGIII left injured. Next Sunday Jan 13 the Seahawks will face the Atlanta Falcons at 4pm PST. Unfortunately, Clemons is out for the season with an ACL injury. The good thing, Russell, Lynch, Sherman, Miller, Wagner, and the rest of the gang are playing extremely well and have the momentum on their side.
The biggest news of the year, NBA’s Sacramento Kings rumored to be bought by Seattle’s Chris Hansen investing group. Talks are ~$500M, this after the Virginia Beach Arena went down. News have been flying all over the web and they claim the deal will be completed by the end of January pending approval of the NBA in March. If all goes along what is being reported, the Sonics will be back in Seattle for the 2013-2014 season! I would have preferred an expansion team rather than moving a franchise up here. I feel for Sacramento and their 28 year long ownership.
Along with NBA potential return to Seattle goes the possibility of a professional NHL team and the Phoenix Coyotes have been struggling to finance their operations. NHL’s lockout have left their energy in trying to get a season going rather than paying attention to what is happening or not in Seattle.
Our beloved Edgar Martínez, will have to keep his fingers crossed for another year… Sports writers did not select any player to MLB’s Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. Gar obtained 35.9% of the needed 75%. He got 36.2% in 2010 and 32.9% in 2011. Still, he has enough votes to remain elegible for next year. As long as he reaches over 5% of the votes he can remain on the ballots for a period of 15 years. Four years have already passed… he has 12 more years and I’ll keep hoping and praying! I will not lose faith that one say, Edgar will make it to Cooperstown as the 4th Boricua and join Roberto Clemente, Orlando ‘Peruchín’ Cepeda & Roberto Alomar.
In women’s sports, our new soccer professional team, Seattle Reign FC, awaits the college draft next Jan. 18th. There is plenty of speculation about which international players will land in Seattle. Most likely candidates: Hope Solo, Sydney Leroux, Alex Morgan, Verónica Pérez (Mexico). Teams will get an allocation of 3 US international players, 2 from Mexico and 2 from Canada. One team will get 2 US players. Check this article for more details.
Seattle Storm and gold olympian point guard, Sue Bird stepped into the court for a game on Jan 6th. First game since her hip surgery last October. She played +23 min. She joined WNBA’s Diana Taurasi, Candace Parker and Ewelina Kolbryn in Russia all of whom play for UMMC Ekaterinbur.
When AC Milan’s midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng hears some vulgar and racist chants from the crowd, he decides enough is enough. He punts the ball toward the racist fans, and in a display of sportsmanship that will surely be talked about for some time, he proceeds to leave the field followed by his teammates and the ENTIRE opposing team. As all the players left the field together, the message to the fan community couldn’t be clearer: It doesn’t matter if you’re a supporter, we will not play for racists.
The player hears the chant and retaliates at 0:09, and both teams make their decision by 0:31. Great shot at 0:52.
I know it is tomorrow but I wanted to do it now.
In Spain, and some Latin American, including Puerto Rico in the Caribbean, and other countries Epiphany day is called El Día de los Reyes (The Day of the Kings), i.e., the day when a group of Kings or Magi, as related in the second…
